Some states have an agency called THE BOARD OF MENTAL RETARDATION AND DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES" (MRDD). In states such as Ohio, the name was changed to "DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES" (DD). However, even though the name might have been changed, the structure of the agency was not. The rules and policies are are basically set to protect individuals who cannot make appropriate decisions for themselves. Because the DD program is designed with no expectations for the client, this not only effects the future of each client, but it also impacts the entire population of that state.
The menu on the left contains stories of disabbled people who have put their disabilities behind them and adapted to function in their community. Included in the menu is a clip of a disabled predator. This is to show that all things, good and bad, are possible.
